TYPES OF INDIANA CASINOS

There are three types of Indiana casinos: riverboat casinos, pari-mutuel casinos, and one Indian casino.

Riverboat Casinos in Indiana

In June 1993 Indiana became the sixth state to legalize riverboat gambling. All of the riverboat casinos in Indiana offer dockside gambling and, unless otherwise noted, are open 24 hours. The minimum gambling age is 21.

Unless otherwise noted, all casinos offer: blackjack, craps, roulette, slots, video poker, video keno and Caribbean stud poker. In addition, some Indiana casinos offer the following games: baccarat, mini-baccarat, poker, pai gow poker, three card poker, Mississippi stud, pai gow, four card poker, Spanish 21, big 6 wheel and let it ride.

The payback percentages on electronic gaming machines at all Indiana casinos (riverboats and pari-mutuels) are released as a matter of public record. Just click here to see a list of slot machine payback statistics for all Indiana casinos.

Pari-Mutuel Casinos in Indiana

In April 2007, the Indiana state legislature authorized the state’s two horse tracks (Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand) to have up to 2,000 electronic gaming machines.

Mardi Gras Casino And Resort

There are no casinos in Indianapolis, but the two racetrack casinos are the closest casinos to Indianapolis. Indiana Grand Racing & Casino is about 30 miles southeast and Hoosier Park Racing & casino is about 45 miles northeast.

Both casinos are open 24 hours and the minimum gambling age is 21. The minimum age for pari-mutuel betting is 18.

Indian Casinos in Indiana

Indiana has one Indian casino (Four Winds Casino South Bend) which opened in early 2018. This casino only offers Class II gambling which consist of electronic gaming machines which look like slot machines, but are actually games of bingo and the spinning video reels are for “entertainment purposes only.'

If you want to order a drink while playing, be aware that state gaming regulations do not allow Indiana casinos to provide free alcoholic beverages.

NOTE: If you happen to win a jackpot of $1,200 or more in Indiana, the casino will withhold 3.4% of your winnings for the Indiana Department of Revenue. You may, however, be able to get some of that money refunded by filing a state income tax return. The $1,200 threshold also applies to any cash prizes won in casino drawings or tournaments.
